This is one location that i choose, i really liked the tones  and the light in this image i really like how one side of the image is really light and it fades into darkness the other side. This is properly the most grimy and rough looking image out of all of my images. I left the flowers behind the metal fence because it’s not as much in sight but it can still be seen because i chose really bright orange flowers. This location has lots of memory’s for me, this is the back of a club where me and my friends used to go before we turned 18 and we could never get in so we would go around the back and we would know the bouncer that watched the exit and he would always let us in, i think this is one of the places that we we were younger we were finding out who we were as people and it was our real first time taste of freedom and making our own choices, i remember clearly a number of conversations that took part outside the back here.

Most people looking at this image will just see the back of somewhere and see it for what it really is and the club that was there isnt open anymore and outside the back there used to be benches to sit on, but anyone that knows me or when there will reconise this location for what it was.

reflection

looking back from the start of my project to the outcome i have now it has changed so much, and it just goes to show how much a project can evolve. My project started out looking at thinking at things in our everyday surroundings that go unnoticed and photograph them in a way that gives them a whole new level of importance, i also reflected on my project that i had done for a summer task looking at human evidence left behind and building together a story, so no looking at my final outcome using flowers you can still see some of my first ideas thought the project, the flowers being left the human evidence and also the flowers give a whole new level of presence to a location because of what we connect with flowers being left in locations.

The project hasn’t finished because there are still many more location that i could visit but for this project and the time constraints meant that i only concentrated on locations in my home town, but if i was the carry on the project i could leave flowers all over the UK in location mapping out most of the place and things Ive done in my life as well as marking certain events in my future so the project will be never ending. I’ve also been thinking about other directions that i could take this project too like marking out other peoples lives using flowers.

I feel like i really stuck to my timetable that i sent out for my self , the project has been slightly difficult because it is a location project and no just one but many so always hoping the weather is right and planning which locations im going to each day as well and always having to buy new flowers for each shoot i do.

The only part of my planning that did fall though was the printing but because i put my printing in so early i was lucky and i still had time to get my work printed onto paper and to get frames for all of my works. i would of really of loved to still get my work printed onto silk because i want to see my work in the form i intended it to be seen in. I’m also thinking about once i have a enough pictures of different location i would want to put a book together of my work.

If i had done anything different for my shoots i would of maybe used some lighting to light the flowers slightly more but I’m still undecided on that because i still think that it works well not always being able to see the flowers until you look closely.

I’m now really excited to see my work up in a gallery and seeing all my images in the frames.

 

Inspiration

These flowers were arranged around a runway for a fashion show inspired by floral prints  and this is also what had inspired me to print onto silk because it would be such a contact from all the photographic floral silk prints that are colour to the more darker and city scape style prints.

How i will be framing my prints

After the mess up with the silk printing i have decided to do paper prints and frame them and these is how i will be positioning them on the wall

I have tried to fit in as many pictures as i can because i feel you need to see a few to see the connection between each location and realise there are flowers in every image, i’ve also given my images quiet a big white border from the frame because it encourages the viewer to look closer into the image and this will help the the problem the arised when there was a concerns about not being able to see the flowers because the prints are small.

Mess up of the silk printing

I had decided to use the fashion department at Coventry to print my images so i sent my images off to be printing along with buying enough silk to print the images on after the transfer and i have clarified that i wanted the images printed A3 in person and via email, when i went back to collect my transfers to get them put onto material they had been printing full size so each image was printed 5m long and it was demanded that i pay for them before the rectified the problem and they would print them to A3 and so i refused to pay because in a normal industry situation i would not expect to be billed for something i didn’t ask for and a mistake that someone else made. so i decided to cut my loss from working with the department because i felt that they just didn’t want to help me and didn’t have time for me.

so instead i have now decided to go with printing my images onto paper and framing- this does mean that because I’m framing etc i won’t be able to show as many images as i had hoped but the way that i can frame my images will help to draw focus into the image so that the flowers can all be seen because all the photos can be looked at together and i can include titles for each image inside the frames because we are not allowed to stick anything to the walls of the gallery.

I’ve found the frames that im going to use from ikea and i have decided to only show six of my images
